11 States Sue over Obama’s Transgender Directive

Eleven states filed lawsuits this week against the Obama administration over the directive to allow transgender students to choose which bathroom they use in public schools.
According to Fox News, the suit was filed in a Texas court after Obama announced earlier this month that transgender students should be able to use the restroom of their choice to match their gender identity.
“This represents just the latest example of the current administration’s attempts to accomplish by executive fiat what they couldn’t accomplish through the democratic process in Congress," Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said.
"President Obama has excluded the voice of the people. We stand today to ensure those voices are heard," Paxton said.
The states involved in the suit are: Texas, Alabama, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Tennessee, Arizona's Department of Education, Maine Gov. Paul LePage, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Utah and Georgia.
“Defendants have conspired to turn workplaces and educational settings across the country into laboratories for a massive social experiment, flouting the democratic process, and running roughshod over commonsense policies protecting children and basic privacy rights,” the lawsuit says.
Texas’s lieutenant governor has already said that the state is willing to forfeit its $10 billion in federal education funds rather than comply with the directive.
