A girl in Georgia is helping those less fortunate this Christmas by teaming up with Samaritan’s Purse and their Operation Christmas Child initiative.

SRNNews.com reports that nine-year-old Jordyn McNeal put a call out on social media for people to contribute toys and toiletries for her and her family to pack up in shoeboxes and send to those in need through Operation Christmas Child.

People responded with great enthusiasm to Jordyn’s request, donating 38,000 toys and toiletries. Jordyn and her family packed the gifts into more than 5,000 shoeboxes.

“It’s been really hard but really fun,” Jordyn said.

Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse led by Franklin Graham, will send an estimated eight million shoeboxes to children in need in more than 100 countries this Christmas season.

“This is an opportunity to provide them with a simple gift to let them know someone cares,” said Phil Barks, Samaritan Purse’s regional director.
