Afghanistan: Suicide Bomber Kills Two, Injures 15

A suicide bomber killed two people and injured 15 in an attack in the Helmand province of southern Afghanistan reports the AP. Authorities believe the bomber was a member of the Taliban.

The suicide bomber targeted a police convoy; the 15 people injured include eight policeman. Helmand province governor’s spokesman Omas Zwak said the convoy was traveling to Sangin district for an operation when it was bombed.

Helmand is known to be one of Afghanistan’s most dangerous provinces, as over 100 people were killed in Sangin in battles between Taliban members and Afghan security officials in June. In the days since, 2,000 troops were sent to patrol the district.

At the same time, Taliban members attacked a police checkpoint in the northern province of Faryab. The struggle killed eight policeman and 27 insurgents said Faryab governor Mohamadullha Batash.
