The Washington landslide that has caused 24 known deaths is now getting aid from Baptist volunteers.

The Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR) organization is one of the largest disaster response organizations in the nation with 82,000 trained volunteers including chaplains reports Baptist Press. SBDR has 1,550 mobile units prepared to tend to almost any need in a disaster area including food, water, child care, hygiene, electricity and repairs.

The Northwest Baptist Convention has has volunteers in the disaster-stricken area since late March providing meals and chaplaincy for those dealing with losses of friends and family members.

North American Mission Board disaster relief executive director said, “It’s great that the Northwest Baptist Convention and the local churches are able to handle this response...We are able to walk alongside them and offer help if they need it.”

Disaster relief workers from Mountain View Baptist Church are providing funeral meals for the families with lost loved ones, a ministry that has been working for 60 years. Mountain View pastor Michael Duncan said, “...people value the [dinner] events. It is a true community gather to support the grieving family. It allows us to love people when they are suffering.”
