Chicago White Sox baseball player Adam Laroche abruptly resigned after being told by management that his 14-year-old son was no longer allowed in the team’s clubhouse.

LaRoche, who identifies as a Christian, signed a $25 million contract with the White Sox in November 2014. He recently decided to walk out on that contract less than two years into it because White Sox Vice President Kenny Williams asked him to not bring his son into the players’ clubhouse so often.

In a move many are praising and others are criticizing, LaRoche told Williams that if his son wasn’t allowed in the clubhouse, he was done playing for the White Sox.

ESPN.go.com reports that before signing a contract with the White Sox, LaRoche was concerned about the baseball club’s interaction with his son.

"[M]y first question to the club concerned my [son Drake's] ability to be a part of the team. After some due diligence on the club's part, we reached an agreement,” said LaRoche.

However, Williams reportedly received complaints when LaRoche began bringing his son into the clubhouse frequently. Williams reportedly asked LaRoche to not bring his son into the clubhouse as often, and that was when LaRoche abruptly quit.

White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said he spoke with LaRoche and the team is closing the discussion on the subject.

"I have taken the past few days to personally meet with everyone involved, including Adam LaRoche, members of our front office, uniformed staff and some of our active players," Reinsdorf said in a statement released Sunday. "I continue to have nothing but the greatest regard for Adam -- in fact, my respect for him has grown during this process -- and I applaud his desire to spend more time with his family."
