A Beijing house church gathering of 27 people was raided by police Sunday. The Guoshulin Church of the Shunyi District was hosting a Bible study when authorities stormed in, taking at least 20 attendees for interrogation.

A witness said, “As we finished our worship, a missionary had just got to the podium to lead us in reading passages from the Bible, and we were praying when the police raided us. They told us to stop the gathering. There were about 27 people in the gathering. The police took all the people who didn’t have identification cards to the local police station; there were more than 20 [without ID cards]. The police also took several copies of Bibles and hymnals.”

China Aid reports that interrogated individuals was released by police after taking information from their cell phones and making a written record.

The same house church had been raided last year by police claiming that the church was not held at a government-approved location.
