Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has reportedly expressed remorse for taking part in the act of terrorism that killed three people and injured 264 in 2013. Tsarnaev has been found guilty of taking part in the attack and a jury will begin deliberating his sentencing this week.
The Russian-born 21-year-old could face the death penalty; the alternative is to send Tsarnaev to prison for life without parole.
Christian Today reports Tsarnaev’s lawyers presented a testimony from a Catholic nun to conclude the case. The nun claimed Tsarnaev expressed remorse for planting two bombs at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013.
Sister Helen Prejean said, "He said it emphatically. He said no one deserves to suffer like they did. I had every reason to think that he was taking it in and that he was genuinely sorry for what he did."
Prejean is an advocate against capital punishment and met with Tsarnaev five times throughout the past year.
