A group of about 100 protesters gathered outside a California church Wednesday evening to protest the pastor’s anti-gay comments.

According to ChristianToday.com, Roger Jimenez, the pastor of Verity Baptist Church in Sacramento, made controversial remarks from the pulpit on Sunday morning after a shooting in a gay nightclub in Orlando killed 49 people.

"People say, like: 'Well, aren't you sad that 50 sodomites died?... Here's the problem with that. It's like the equivalent of asking me — what if you asked me: 'Hey, are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today?'"

"I wish the government would round them all up," Jimenez continued, "put them up against a firing wall, put a firing squad in front of them, and blow their brains out."

Jimenez’ comments have been widely criticized and the YouTube video of his sermon has been taken down.

A statement released by Sacramento City Pastors Fellowship said: "These comments, applauding the death of innocent people, are completely contrary to the Bible's teaching and God's heart. His [Jimenez’] statements do not represent Jesus nor hundreds of Sacramento pastors whose hearts have been broken and are praying for the loved ones so tragically affected by this cowardly act."
