Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is under fire for a campaign song which replaces the name of Jesus in an old hymn with that of her own.

Clinton issued an invitation to the women’s chorus Voices From the Heart to sing at her campaign stop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Christian Today reports.

Voices From the Heart reworded the old hymn “Woke Up This Morning (With My Mind on Jesus)” to say “Woke up this mornin’ with my mind stayin’ on Hillary.”

Clinton and the women’s choir are receiving criticism from the rendition of the hymn, with Todd Starnes of Fox News calling it “just plain creepy” and “downright sacrilegious.”

Starnes goes on to say that this isn’t the first time Democrats have exalted their candidate to the status of a god.

Starnes cites the instance when a Newsweek article featured a cover story of President Obama as the “Second Coming” and a picture of the president as the crucified Christ. Starnes also cites the instance when schoolchildren were made to sing songs in praise of the president.

Furthermore, Starnes asserts that the status Democrats ascribe to their candidates may explain why they have tried to vote God out of society.

"They've only got room for one god in their party—or as the case may be goddess.”

Clinton claims to be a devout Christian, referring to her upbringing in the First United Methodist Church in Park Ridge, Illinois.

She is currently lagging in polls, which show Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders moving into the lead for the Democratic presidential nomination.
