A pair of conjoined twins recently underwent a risky surgery while their Christian parents prayed and trusted God with the outcome.
ChristianToday.com reports that the twins, named Eva and Erika, were joined together in their mother’s womb.
Their parents, Aida and Arturo Sandoval from California, put their trust in God as their two-year-old girls underwent the risky separation and reconstructive surgery.
"I have faith in God, and I know that if it's meant to be, it will be," mother Aida told The Daily Mail.
After a 17-hour surgery, doctors said the procedure had been successful.
"I'm very pleased; this is as good as we could have asked for," said lead surgeon Dr. Gary Hartman at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto, California.
“They look amazing,” said the girls’ mother upon seeing them after the surgery. She added that it will take time to get used to seeing the girls separately.
Father Arturo wondered what the girls would think once they realized that they were separated from each other.
"What are they going to do? How are they going to react?" he asked, adding that, before the surgery, the girls were “talkative, vivacious girls who danced, jumped and crawled while maneuvering their sprawling, seven-limbed body.”
Now, after the surgery, the girls will each have one leg and will share parts of organs such as liver, bladder, and lungs.
Two years ago, when the couple discovered Aida was pregnant with conjoined twins, doctors suggested they abort the children, but the couple refused, deciding instead to choose life for their babies.
