Christian Film Starring Rene Zellweger is Based on the True Story of a Restored Marriage

Actress Renee Zellweger will star in the upcoming film “Same Kind of Different As Me,” a film that deals with a husband and wife’s marriage and redemption.

Zellweger stars as Debbie, who is devastated when her husband Ron Hall (Greg Kinnear) admits he has been having an affair.

“In return, Debbie asks him to volunteer at the homeless shelter with her,” the film's synopsis reads. “After having a mysterious dream, she asks Ron to befriend an angry homeless man [named Denver] with a brutal past (Djimon Hounsou). One random act of kindness leads the three of them on the most remarkable journey of their lives.”

The film isn’t being marketed as a faith-based movie, but Paramount Pictures and Christian entertainment company, Pure Flix, produced it.

"One of the things that I love about this story is that there are so many themes of healing," Zellweger said. "By sharing this mission to help other people they come together again."

In a line from the movie, Denver tells husband Ron Hall that, “God is in the recycling business of turning trash into treasure.”

The movie is based on the New York Times bestselling book by Ron Hall. Before real-life Denver died in 2012, Hall and Denver spoke around the country and visited homeless shelters, raising about $32 million for the homeless. Hall still travels and speaks today.
