Christian movie director Mitch Davis who is behind the upcoming film The Stray, said he believes God sometimes sends us guardian angels in the form of dogs.

Davis’s film is based on his own experiences and tells the story of a stray dog who endears himself to a family just when it seems the family is about to fall apart, according to ChristianToday.com.

The film also shows how that stray dog, named Pluto, helps the family when the father and three boys get lost in the wilderness and the father even gets struck by lightning.

“Dogs perform that function of unconditionally loving us, which is really what the Lord does," Davis said in an interview with the The Gospel Herald. "He unconditionally loves us and is there for us and forgives us, and I think dogs do much the same thing. There's something very Christ-like about that story."

"There's no question that God used Pluto to change our lives," Davis added, referring to his own life story, on which the movie is based.

"I think God ministers to us in many ways through many means," he continued. "The Scriptures teach that we have all entertained angels unawares, and whether or not God specifically sent Pluto, there's no question that he performed an angelic function in our family. He healed us and saved us emotionally and physically."

The Stray will be released in select theaters nationwide on October 6, 2017.
