Clerk Defends Issuing Illegal Gay Marriage Licenses

A Montgomery County clerk is defending his decision to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Pennsylvania, where the law still defines marriage as between one man and one woman, CBN News reports. In a legal brief, Democrat D. Bruce Hanes called the law unconstitutional, pointing to the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down part of the Defense of Marriage Act. In the last month, the Register of Wills has issued about 135 marriage licenses to gay couples in Montgomery County. Pennsylvania's Republican Gov. Tom Corbett has gone to Commonwealth Court to try to stop Hanes. Hanes wants the case moved to the state Supreme Court.
