Individuals who went through divorces have said that, if they could do it over, they would work harder to keep their marriages together.

The Christian Institute reports that two individuals whose marriages ended in divorce have revealed in interviews that they now realize preserving their marriage is “infinitely preferable” to divorce.

Jane Gordon, who spoke to The Daily Telegraph several years after divorcing her husband of over 20 years said that culture led her to believe that divorce was the best option.

She said divorce was marketed as the “new norm” and a “fresh start,” but in reality she found “that staying in a less than perfect marriage is infinitely preferable – for both parents and children – than the long-term effects of breaking up a family.”

Gordon said culture led her to believe that it was better for children to have divorced parents than to live with parents who were unhappily married, but she now realizes that this isn’t necessarily the case.

Peter is another individual who got divorced and remarried at the age of 72. He stresses that others should avoid doing what he did so they can avoid the pain of a fractured family.

“If somebody came to me now, before they’d left their wife, asking what they should do I think my answer would be see if you can make it work, in other words don’t do what I did,” Peter shared.
