Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is attempting to persuade Evangelical voters to support his campaign. Trump gained an early lead among his Republican competitors, but Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson are quickly closing the gap.

The billionaire real estate mogul is now courting the Evangelical community to come over to his side.

Last month, Trump said, "I love them. They love me. I love the Evangelicals, and it's really shown in the polls."

The AP reports some Christian voters have expressed concern over Trump’s politics, specifically his former support of abortion and reputation as a womanizer.

Russell Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention wrote, "When one looks at the very serious moral character questions, from Trump's involvement in the casino gambling industry all the way through to his attitude toward women, Donald Trump is the embodiment of everything that evangelical Christians have been standing against in American culture.”

However, Trump does have a solid base of Christian leaders behind him. He plans to meet with these pastors and bishops from across the country at the Trump Tower in New York on Monday (Sept. 28).

The gathering with include a prayer service as well as a political discussion.

Trump Organization attorney Michael Cohen said, "Many of them know Mr. Trump personally and have had private conversations with him over the years. And despite the fact that some of their views might be different, they certainly respect the fact that he speaks openly, he speaks from his heart, and he's willing to listen."
