Egypt: ISIS Kills Policeman, Wounds 4 Others in Attack on Monastery

A policeman was killed and four others were wounded after the Islamic State terror group tried to attack the St. Catherine’s monastery in Sinai, Egypt this week.
The attack on the Christian monastery was thwarted.
"Had they succeeded it would have been discussed in the next 5,000 years of Church history," Johnnie Moore, founder and CEO of The KAIROS Company and human rights advocate, told The Christian Post.
ISIS gunmen reportedly opened fire from a hilltop overlooking a police checkpoint near the entrance to the monastery. They fled the scene following the shootout, but killed one officer.
Moore said the attempted attack is cause for “great alarm” throughout the global Christian community.
"Today's incident is simply the latest in a drastic escalation of attacks across the world. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us, and each of us must ask ourselves what more we can do to help."
On Palm Sunday, radicals bombed two churches in Alexandria and Tanta, killing 45 Christians. They promised more attacks would follow.
After the bombings, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said he would do more to protect Egypt’s Christian people. He declared a three-month state of emergency and deployed armed forces to guard churches in the country.
Moore said al-Sisi’s actions are a start.
"Threatened Christians need physical protection but they also need the protection of the rule of law. In countries like Iraq they not only need to be free of ISIS they need generous support from the public and private sectors to rebuild their homes, churches and lives," he said.
