Evangelical Leaders Respond to Brussels Terrorist Attacks

ISIS has claimed responsibility for attacks in Brussels that killed at least 31 people and wounded about 230 others. Two bombings at the Brussels airport and one explosion at a subway station caused the carnage, according to ABC News. 

Immediately after the attacks, the world rallied around Belgium in solidarity and support. Evangelical leaders are now speaking out in response to the devastating attacks. 

Samaritan’s Purse and Billy Graham Evangelistic Association president Franklin Graham said, “Join me in praying for the victims and families of the Muslim terrorist attack in Brussels today. Islamists have told us we will see more of these attacks and we have to take their threats seriously. I have long supported a temporary halt to immigration, especially for those coming from Muslim countries, until we have a vetting program that works and we can know who these people are. If we can't get an accurate background check, they don't come in. It's as simple as that. What happened in Belgium, in Paris, and in New York on 9/11 will happen again inside our borders unless something changes because the current administration has lowered the standards and our President even refuses to acknowledge this as Islamic terrorism. Our country is in trouble─we have a void in leadership. Pray that God will give us a strong leader for this nation.” 

Southern Baptist Theological Seminary president Albert Mohler responded, “Praying for the people of Brussels today after brutal terror attack. May God preserve life.” 

Southern Baptist Convention president Ronnie Floyd said, “The evil destruction of human lives through the #BelgiumAttack is beyond words. Leaders in the world, lead to bring an end to these attacks.”

Christian organizations also made public statements in response to the acts of terrorism. 

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said, “Our prayers are with Brussels, Belgium today after news of deadly terrorist attacks. Please pray for the first responders, those wounded and those who lost loved ones, as well as for justice to be served.” 

The organization continued to quote scripture, saying, “‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.’ (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)”

Family Research Council said, “Our thoughts & prayers are with the victims and their families in Brussels.”

They, too, then quoted scripture, saying, “‘In the world you will have trouble. But take heart; I have overcome the world.’ John 16:33 ‪#‎PrayforPeace‬”
