According to Fox News, Florida Gov. Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency as the rapidly growing Hurricane Irma approaches. Now a Category 4 storm, Irma is expected to make landfall in Florida later this week. Scott has warned locals to, “Prepare for the worst and hope for the best” while encouraging all Floridians to, “Remain vigilant and stay alert to local weather and news.”

The oncoming storm is likely to dump up to 10 inches of rain on the state, with the potential for dangerous landslides and flash floods as well. Given the recent destruction in Texas caused by Hurricane Harvey, many Americans are bracing themselves for whatever damage Irma may bring. Meteorologists have even noted this could be the first time in 102 years that two Category 4 hurricanes made landfall in the United States within the same year, an event likely attributed to global warming.
