Florida Megachurch Pastor Resigns Over 'Moral Failing'

Bob Coy, pastor of the 20,000-member Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale church resigned from his post on April 3. Coy had held the position since the church’s establishment in 1985.

The church released a statement on its website April 6, publicly announcing the news. “...Bob Coy resigned as Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, effective immediately, after confessing to a moral failing in his life which disqualifies him from continuing his leadership role at the church.”

Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale is the 14th largest church in the country, and the second largest in the state. The church meets at 10 campuses across Florida.

Coy’s Active Word media ministry has also been suspended, The program published the pastor’s sermons on the radio, television and digital media.
