North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory is having a difficult time finding a new job after losing reelection in his state, due in large part to the controversial transgender bathroom bill.

HB2, popularly known as the “bathroom bill” was approved by Gov. McCrory and mandated that individuals had to use the bathroom that corresponded to their gender at birth. The transgender community took issue with this bill, alleging that it discriminated against them.

The bill became a source of national controversy, with both sides fiercely debating the issue.

McCrory lost reelection as governor in November, largely due to the continued controversy. He recently said that he is having difficulty finding a new position.

The bathroom bill ““has impacted me to this day, even after I left office,” he said, according to Heatstreet. “People are reluctant to hire me, because, ‘oh my gosh, he’s a bigot’ – which is the last thing I am.”

Not only is McCory facing criticism in the job market, he also has come up against criticism and protests in public.

A couple months ago, when he exited a meeting in Washington D.C., protesters ambushed him, screaming “Shame! Shame! Shame!”

“If you disagree with the politically correct thought police on this new definition of gender, you’re a bigot, you’re the worst of evil. It’s almost as if I broke a law,” he lamented.
