Gay Pride Flag Placed on Campus at Wheaton College

Wheaton College, a Christian university outside of Chicago, is again facing criticism, this time for a gay pride flag that someone allegedly put up in the college’s dining hall.

Wheaton was recently embroiled in a controversy involving a professor who wore a hijab to show solidarity with Muslims and said that Christians and Muslims “worship the same God.” Now the school is again being accused of departing from biblical orthodoxy.

In a column for Charisma News, conservative commentator Todd Starnes writes that the mother of a Wheaton student sent him a photograph showing the gay pride flag flying alongside other flags in the college’s dining hall.

"When the gay pride flag flies at your Christian college, it is a direct attack on the Word of God; it's shameful," Starnes says the student’s mother wrote. "Wheaton has compromised with truth long ago and fears the wrath of media and gay students more than they fear the Lord God," she continued.

In a statement, Wheaton said, "The flag, which had been placed among a display of international flags that hang throughout the dining hall, was immediately removed from the display.”

The student’s mother also noted that students who hold biblical views are afraid to speak out and receive criticism or be reprimanded.

"The real important issue is the subtle and not-so-subtle silencing of those who believe in the objective truths of God's Word," she said. "When the flagship school of evangelicalism sends the message that to do so is hateful or unkind, we are in deep trouble. And we are."
