Hillary Clinton has stated that the massacre of thousands of Christians and other minorities in the Middle East is, indeed, genocide.

ABCNews.com reports that Clinton had been reluctant to use the term “genocide” because she said “that term carries wiith it, legal import.”

However, in a town hall at Berlin High School, her last campaign event of 2015, Clinton responded to the question of whether she would join the Pope and other religious leaders in using the term genocide with a definitive “yes.”

“Yes, I will now. I will because we now have enough evidence,” Clinton said. “What is happening is genocide. Deliberately aimed at destroying not only the lives but wiping out the existence of Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East in territories controlled by ISIS, and so I agree with you.”

President Obama has been reluctant to use the term “genocide” as well. Earlier this month he released a statement which labelled persecution in the Middle East as “brutal atrocities,” but did not go so far as to call the atrocities a genocide against Christians and other minorities.

“It’s a very important concept and label for behavior that deserves that name,” continued Clinton. “And I said we are only beginning to see this and I’m not sure yet we have enough evidence. II’m sure now we have enough evidence.”
