The U.S. House of Representatives voted Thursday to allow states to decide whether to fund abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood.

Representatives voted 228-188 to repeal the Obama administration ruling from December.

“As a registered nurse, I know that vulnerable women seeking true comprehensive care deserve better than abortion-centric facilities like Planned Parenthood,” said Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), who introduced the resolution.

The December rule said that states cannot deny federal Title X family planning grants to abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood just because they provide abortions.

Federal funds cannot directly be used to fund abortion operations, but pro-life supporters have said that the dollars have still allowed Planned Parenthood to continue to provide more abortions.

But Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards sent an email to supporters before the House vote, saying that overturning the December ruling would be a “devastating attack.”

The bill will now move on to the Senate for voting.

“Planned Parenthood which, according to their latest annual report, performed 323,999 abortions in a single year, does not need or deserve taxpayer dollars,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List. “We look forward to swift passage of this resolution in the Senate so that it can receive President Trump’s signature,” she said.
