The House of Representatives will vote this week on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation that would outlaw abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Christianity Today reports the vote will take place on May 13, the anniversary of abortionist Kermit Gosnell’s conviction of first degree murder. Gosnell is serving a life sentence for the first-degree murder of three infants that were born alive during abortion procedures.

The House was originally scheduled to vote on the legislation in January, but the vote was blocked by Republican lawmakers who wanted to alter the Act’s treatment of pregnant rape victims.

Pro-life advocates have praised the legislation, arguing that it will save the lives of thousands.

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council said, “The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is of critical importance in saving up to 13,000 babies a year from a gruesomely painful death from late term abortion. It also is based on the idea that Congress has a compelling interest in protecting unborn babies from experiencing pain. Congress should act to stop this cruel practice.”

The hashtag #theyfeelpain was trending on social media in anticipation of the House vote.
