Despite an expected nuclear deal, an Iranian military official said this week that America will still be an enemy of Tehran.

Iranian Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said that even if Iran and western officials manage to reach an agreement by Tuesday’s deadline, Tehran and the U.S. will still be enemies.

"The US might arrive at some agreements with us within the framework of the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany), but we should never hold a positive view over the enemy," Pourdastan told the Iran's Fars News Agency.

"Our enmity with them is over the principles and is rooted because we are after the truth and nations' freedom, but they seek exploiting nations and putting them in chains," he said.

Under the proposed deal, Tehran would limit its nuclear work and other countries would lift their sanctions against Iran, according to The Jerusalem Post

Iran claims its nuclear work isn’t meant for developing nuclear weapons, but other countries are worried.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said earlier this week that a deal would be possible if Iran makes some “hard choices.”

If a deal is made, it would mark an important milestone between Iran and the United States.
