ISIS militants have reportedly killed 160 women and children for a mix of alleged “crimes” such as refusal to fast during the festival of Ramadan and sorcery. The report comes from the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Observatory said, "Many of the charges against those executed are recorded as blasphemy and spying, but others include sorcery, sodomy, practising as a Shia Muslim.”

Earlier this week, two more children were killed in eastern Syria for so-called “improper fasting” during Ramadan. The children’s bodies were put on display with signs that stated their offense.

Jasmine Opperman, of the Terrorism, Research & Analysis Consortium, said, "ISIS is using executions to show its followers—and would-be followers—that the group is the only true representative of believers, not only in word, but action, which is why executions are featured so prominently."

Christian Today reports the latest killings brings the total number of ISIS victims to over 3,000 since the terrorist organization established its caliphate in June 2014.
