ISIS Threatens to Attack Washington, D.C.

ISIS was quick to claim responsibility for the deadly Paris terrorist attacks that took the lives of 129 people, and now the terrorist organization has issued a direct threat to the U.S.

In a video released Monday, Nov. 16, ISIS claimed that it will carry out an attack on Washington, D.C., and that the Paris attacks were just the beginning of the violence.

ABC News reports that precautionary security measures are being taken in the U.S.

CIA Director John Brennan stated, “It's not just Europe. I think we here in the United States need to be obviously quite vigilant.”

“Their agenda is to kill. Pure and simple,” Brennan added, referring to the terrorist group.

Police presence has been increased in Times Square, congressional offices, and U.S. parks.

"In light of the recent attacks, the United States Park Police remain ever vigilant,” said Park Police Chief Robert MacLean. “We stand prepared to protect the national icons entrusted to us and the visitors to them."

Although, as of yet, the U.S. does not face a specific, defined threat from ISIS, surveillance of suspected ISIS sympathizers is also being increased.

In addition, D.C.’s mayor, Muriel Bowser, has urged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activity to the police.

“It's not trite to say that if 'you see something, say something,' cause it's very important that officials have information just as soon as it's available,” Bowser said outside the French Embassy yesterday.
