Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Congress Tuesday (March 3), urging the politicians to step away from a deal with Iran that would grant Iranians access to nuclear weapons. According to Netanyahu, President Obama’s proposed deal with Iran to allow its nuclear program in exchange for lifting U.S. sanctions will result in the Middle East “littered with nuclear bombs.”

Netanyahu said, "This deal has two major concessions: one, leaving Iran with a vast nuclear program, and two, lifting the restrictions on that program in about a decade.

"That's why this deal is so bad. It doesn't block Iran's path to the bomb, it paves Iran's path to the bomb."

Netanyahu’s speech was coordinated by Congressional Republicans without the President’s knowledge and had been the center of controversy for weeks.

The primary point the Israeli Prime Minister made was that Iran will only become more powerful with U.S. sanctions removed.

"Would Iran be less aggressive when sanctions are removed and its economy is stronger? If Iran is gobbling up four countries right now while it's under sanctions, how many more countries will Iran devour when sanctions are lifted?" Netanyahu asked.

According to Vox, Obama believes the Iran knows that the sanctions hurt its economy, and would suspend its quest for nuclear weapons to pursue a healthier economy.
