Israelis and Palestinians clashed over the weekend in what is being called the worst display of Israeli-Palestinian violence in years.

The Christian Post reports that at least seven people were killed in a conflict which occurred in Jerusalem as well as at the Israeli embassy in Jordan.

The violence erupted in response to Israel’s decision to install metal detectors near entrances to the Temple Mount, which includes the Muslim holy site of Haram al-Sharif.

Israel has remained firm on their decision to keep the metal detectors in place, however. Despite the protests and violence, Israel’s minister for regional development, Tzachi Hanegbi, stated, "The murderers will never tell us how to search the murderers. If [Palestinians] do not want to enter the mosque, then let them not enter the mosque."

In addition to the seven Israelis and Palestinians who were killed in the conflict in Jerusalem, a Palestinian reportedly stabbed an Israeli security guard at the Israeli embassy in Amman, Jordan.

The guard shot and killed the Palestinian in self-defense. The guard will reportedly recover, but another man who was injured when the attack occurred has died.

On Monday, President Trump sent Jason Greenblatt to Israel as a special Middle East enjoy “to support efforts to reduce tensions in the region.”
