The U.S. and Canada held March for Life rallies already this year, and now it was Italy’s turn.

This past Saturday, May 20th, thousands of people gathered in Rome for a March for Life rally, protesting abortion as well as euthanasia.

A number of religious organizations joined in the march, according to LifeSiteNews.com, including the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, the Institute of the Incarnate Word, the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, and the Society of St. Pius X.

Gianna Jessen, a pro-life advocate who is a survivor of failed abortion herself, also was present at the rally and gave a speech in which she urged participants to be “unashamed of Jesus.”

"This is a battle between life and death and we need God's help," she continued. "It's a broken world and broken people need real answers that come from God. The only freedom any of us will ever find from our sin is Jesus."

Father Francesco Giordano, director of Human Life International’s Rome office, said that the Rome March for Life is “taking on a life of its own.”

Giordano also encouraged pro-life advocates to “network globally and work locally” to further the movement.
