Jars of Clay Lead Singer Announces Support for Gay Marriage

The lead singer for Jars of Clay took to Twitter this week to say he supports homosexual marriage.
Dan Haseltine said Wednesday: “Not meaning to stir things up BUT… is there a non-speculative or non ‘slippery slope’ reason why gays shouldn’t marry? I don’t hear one.
“I’m trying to make sense of the conservative argument. But it doesn’t hold up to basic scrutiny. Feels akin to women’s suffrage. I just don’t see a negative effect to allowing gay marriage. No societal breakdown, no war on traditional marriage. Anyone?”
“I don’t think Scripture ‘clearly’ state much of anything regarding morality,” he said.
The tweets prompted a response from Michael Brown, the author of “Can You be Gay and Christian? Responding with Love and Truth to Questions about Homosexuality.”
He said the tweets supported “the destruction of marriage.”
“Do you think that God’s order for marriage and family, established plainly in the Word and recognized by virtually all societies in history, can be thrown aside without consequences?” Brown wrote in a column on Charisma News addressing Haseltine.
Also this week, Haseltine tweeted that some radio stations have stopped playing Jars of Clay music.
“Why?,” he tweeted.
In response a follower tweeted: “Because you have decided to support a lifestyle God calls an abomination. The fallout was inevitable.”
Jars of Clay started about 20 years ago in Tennessee. The group has earned 20 Top 10 singles on the contemporary Christian singles charts. Their latest album, “Inland,” was released in August 2013.
