Former Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush has endorsed Ted Cruz for president.

ABC News reports that Bush endorsed Cruz in order to stop Donald Trump from dividing the Republican party and gaining the nomination.

“Ted is a consistent, principled conservative who has demonstrated the ability to appeal to voters and win primary contests," Bush wrote in the statement released this morning. "Washington is broken, and the only way Republicans can hope to win back the White House and put our nation on a better path is to support a nominee who can articulate how conservative policies will help people rise up and reach their full potential."

"For the sake of our party and country, we must move to overcome the divisiveness and vulgarity Donald Trump has brought into the political arena," Bush continued.

Although when running himself Bush criticized Cruz for his inexperience as a politician and for his call to “carpet-bomb” ISIS, he did call Cruz “gifted” and “brilliant.”

Trump constantly went after Bush when they were both running, which may be why Bush is hard-set on stopping Trump. Although Bush may be more politically aligned with Ohio Gov. John Kasich, he believes Cruz has the best chance to beat Trump.
