Jefferson Bethke: New Book to Discuss What Christians Can Learn from the Early Church

YouTube sensation and Christian author Jefferson Bethke is releasing a new book which aims to show young Christians how first century church practices are relevant to their faith today.
The Christian Post reports that Bethke became popular in 2013 when his spoken word YouTube video “Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus” went viral. Bethke then wrote a book titled Jesus > Religion: Why He Is So Much Better Than Trying Harder, Doing More, and Being Good Enough, building off of the YouTube video.
Bethke is now releasing another book titled It’s Not What You Think: Why Christianity Is About So Much More Than Going to Heaven When You Die.
In this book, Bethke hopes to re-interest millenials in the Christian faith by showing how first century church practices can reinvigorate the Body of Christ today.
"If we recover what Christianity was really about [along with] these big ideas that were really important to first century people, that aren't to us, [then] I think we will give people what they've been searching for," Bethke said in an interview with The Christian Post.
Bethke commented on the falling away from the Christian faith he has witnessed among his peers, stating that many find that the Christian faith in which they were raised doesn’t live up to their expectations. He hopes his new book will be a way for them to renew their faith and find how age-old Christian practices can enrich the Christian life.
"A lot of things were very cultural to them, contextually, that informed their stories, words and Scriptures. And so for us, because we're 21st century thinking Western people, we just kind of miss a lot of that stuff. The book is just a call back to that. What if we really dig deeper? If we enter into Jesus' world, then I think we can understand His words," Bethke stated.
