Judge Neil Gorsuch was officially confirmed to take his place on the Supreme Court Friday afternoon.

In a controversial move, Republican lawmakers implemented the so-called “nuclear option,” a procedure that changed Senate rules to allow Gorsuch to be confirmed with a simple majority vote instead of the usual 60 required votes.

The official vote was 54-45, according to Fox News. In addition to Senate Republicans, three Democrats also voted to approve Gorsuch.

Gorsuch will replace conservative Justice Antonin Scalia who passed away in February 2016. Once Gorsuch is sworn in, the court will be split 5-4, with conservatives holding an edge.

“He’s going to make the American people proud,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said.

Trump also congratulated Gorsuch via Twitter.
