Kenya’s attorney general has instituted a ban on allowing new churches mosques and temples from registering.

According to Christianity Today, the East African nation is enforcing stricter regulations because some clergy have promised miracles to adherents.

“We call on all Christians to support us and stand with us,” said Mark Kariuki, chairman of the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya. “When it comes to matters of faith, people are willing to die for the faith and we will stand firm with the church.”

The clamp down came as a result of KTN’s Inside Story investigative report entitled "Prayer Predators,” on Pastor Victor Kanyari. Kanyari allegedly faked miracles and testimonies.

The televangelist leads Salvation Healing Ministry church in Nairobi and reportedly generating income from followers through fake miracles.

KTN’s expose claims Kanyari requested funds be sent through mobile money transfers before receiving prayer and miracles.

Evangelical Churches Alliance chairman, Bishop Mark Kariuki expressed concern about the restrictions.

“One rotten tomato does not mean all tomatoes are rotten. If they go there, we will have a problem,” Kariuki told the Daily Nation
