Controversial pastor Terry Jones has announced his run for the presidency in 2016. Jones is known as a critic of Barack Obama and has garnered attention in the past for planning to burn Korans.

Christian Today reports Jones will run as a fringe candidate. The former pastor of Dove World Outreach Center in Florida also campaigned for the presidency in 2012.

Jones reportedly told Politico that he is campaigning to save America

. "I'm pretty devastated by the condition of America, the moral condition, the spiritual condition, the economical condition," he said.

Jones also said he knows that winning the election would take "some type of major miracle."

Samir Khatib, Islamic Society of Sarasota and Bradenton spokesperson said Jones’ campaign was a “joke.”

"He hates people,” Khatib said. “To even think of becoming the president of the most prestigious countries in the world, the most powerful country, is an insult to the American people. So let's all concentrate on having people with some intelligence to put our country together to building community, to make the country more successful than it is."

In response, Jones said, “I'm running for president. Vote for me."
