Little Boy Wanted Trump-themed Party, but No One Would Agree to Bake the Cake

The mother of a nine-year-old boy who requested a President Trump-themed birthday party says she was unable to find a bakery that would agree to make a cake for the party.
The Washington Times reports that White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders shared a letter from nine-year-old Dylan at a press briefing.
“Dear President Trump,” wrote the young boy, “My name [sic] Dylan but every body calls me pickle. I’m 9 years old and you are my favrit president. I like you so much I had a birthday about you. My cake was the shap of your hat. How old are you? How big is the white hose? Ho much monny do you have? I don’t now why people don’t like you. You seme nice can we be friends? My pitcher is in here so if you see me you can say hi. You friend Dylan.”
Dylan’s mother said her son admires the president so much that he requested a Trump-themed birthday party, but since she was unable to find a bakery that would agree to make a Trump-themed cake, she had to make the cake herself.
This, of course, brings to mind the Christian bakeries and other businesses that are under fire for refusing to bake cakes or provide other services for gay weddings. Many are questioning how this bakery declining to provide a Trump-themed birthday cake for a nine-year-old is any different than a bakery declining to provide a cake for a same-sex wedding.
Michael P. Farris, CEO of Alliance Defending Freedom, the organization defending Christian baker Jack Phillips, commented on this incident:
“Similarly here, cake shops declined Pickle’s order for conscience reasons. Yet, no one on the Left is calling for legal action against the cake shops. And neither should anyone on the Right.”
Farris continued, “The fact is that these cake shops have freedom of speech. They have the right to decline to use their artistic talents to celebrate events or promote messages that violate their beliefs, even if it offends a nice little kid.”
Phillips and other Christian business owners shouldn’t be treated differently, argued Farris.
