Marco Rubio Shares His Faith with Iowans Leading up to Caucus

Marco Rubio fielded questions about his faith at an Iowa event this week.

According to The Washington Post, Rubio “sounded more like a Sunday school teacher than a presidential candidate” at a town hall where he talked about Jesus and John the Baptist.

One question was “On your decision-making, will you follow God’s word?”

Rubio responded: “Yes, I try every day in everything I do.”

The Florida Republican senator is trying to encourage Christian conservative voters to support him. 

“I do think it’s important for our president to be someone who is influenced by their faith, especially if it’s Christianity, because it is a faith that teaches you to care for the less fortunate, to seek peace, to care for one another, even to love your enemy,” Rubio told reporters Tuesday.

Also in Iowa, Rubio talked about his faith in his own family.

“My wife Jeanette and I are raising four children right now, and we have to work harder than ever to ensure that our children grow up with the values they teach in our church instead of the values they are trying to ram down our throats in the popular culture,” he said.

Rubio is Roman Catholic, but, as a child, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Las Vegas. Today, he attends a Southern Baptist megachurch.

In Iowa polls, Sen. Ted Cruz has most of the Christian right support. Trump, however, recently earned the endorsement of Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr.
