Marco Rubio suspended his presidential campaign Tuesday night (March 15) after losing his home state of Florida to Donald Trump. ABC News reports Rubio predicted he would “shock the country” with a win in Florida, despite pre-primary polls that showed Trump’s lead for the 99 delegates.

Instead, Trump scored a landslide victory in Florida, securing 45.8 percent of the vote. Rubio fell to second place with 27 percent.

In his concession speech, Rubio said, "After tonight, it is clear that while we are on the right side, this year, we will not be on the winning side.”

He continued, "And so while it is not God's plan that I be president in 2016 or maybe ever, and while today my campaign is suspended, the fact that I've even come this far is evidence of how special America truly is and all the more reason why we must do all we can to make sure this nation remains a special place."

Throughout the course of his campaign Rubio won three primaries outright: Minnesota, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia.

With Rubio’s concession, the Republican field is now narrowed to Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and John Kasich, who scored a win in his home state of Ohio Tuesday.
