Mike Huckabee: Gun Dealers Should Not Comply with Obama's Gun Control Policies

Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has said that gun dealers should refuse to comply with a possible executive order to make background checks imperative for those purchasing a gun.

“There should certainly be an absolute, unapologetic — just complete ignoring of such an order by those gun-shop owners, because the president can't make law. He just can’t." Huckabee stated, according to Christian Today.

"[T]he more that we surrender the Constitution to a president who supposedly taught constitutional law ... the more he keeps that going,” Huckabee continued.

Huckabee’s comments are a response to President Obama’s consideration of enacting an executive order which would make background checks mandatory for anyone who seeks to purchase a weapon from high-volume gun dealers.

The discussion of stricter gun control laws has been surfacing more and more frequently in recent months, in response to mass shootings which shocked the nation, the latest of which took place at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

Huckabee, however, remains firmly convinced that imposing stricter gun control laws is not the answer to the problem. He has been a firm supporter of Constitutional rights in the past, with his vocal support of Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis.

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay agrees with Huckabee, stating that for Obama to impose stricter background checks on gun purchasers without the approval of Congress is an impeachable offenses.

“The House needs to use its power of hearings to start letting the American people know that this is a lawless president, we have a lawless Supreme Court — and the judiciary needs to step up and show the American people what this president is doing, which will support any other efforts to defund the president," he said.
