The funerals for Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu will take place later this week and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has called for a cessation of protests until the funerals are over.

Ramos and Liu were shot and killed this week by suspect Ishmaaiyl Brinsley, who posted a message to Instagram suggesting he planned to put “wings on pigs” before attacking the officers in a parked patrol car.

There has been continued unrest in New York since the officers that killed Michael Brown of Ferguson, Missouri and Eric Garner of New York City were not indicted by grand juries. According to The Blaze, de Blasio said that New York should focus on the families of the officers and allow them time to grieve.

In a speech, de Blasio said, “I think it’s important that regardless of people’s viewpoints that everyone step back. I think it’s a time for everyone to put aside political debates, put aside protests, put aside all of the things that we will talk about in all due time.”

Officer Ramos’ wake will be held on Friday (Dec. 26) with the burial following Saturday (Dec. 27) at the Christ Tabernacle Church in Glendale, New York.

Officer Liu’s family is still searching for a location to hold services as Liu did not attend a church, preferring to pray at home.
