Over 1,000 people assembled in Utah Monday (Dec. 1) to create the world’s largest live nativity. All 1,039 people at the gathering wore traditional biblical attire or angel costumes and made a new Guinness World record, crushing the previous record of 889 participants.

A live camel, a donkey and a sheep completed the nativity display.

Event organizer Austin Craig said that in addition to breaking a world record, the group wanted to remind people of the reason to celebrate Christmas

“We focus so much on what to buy and what specials there are. What is Christmas really about? It’s about your faith,” Craig said.

“We want to bring that focus back on Jesus during the Christmas season, so that people remember that it’s about more than Santa and reindeer and presents and what’s in my stocking. This is a time to remember the redeemer of the world.”

The live nativity will be included in an upcoming music video featuring American Idol runner-up David Archuleta and YouTube star Peter Hollins.
