Pastor Warns That Pokémon Go is 'Magnet for Demonic Powers'

Pokémon Go has become the new craze. Kids and adults alike have been playing the game which involves using the Pokémon Go app to find Pokémon characters in real-life places.

While some believe the game is simply a fun way to spend time, a number of Christians have warned that it may pose more serious dangers. There have already been game-related fatalities.

U.S. pastor Rick Wiles, who runs the Trunews website, believes the game is also dangerous on a spiritual level.

According to ChristianToday.com, Wiles said, “I believe this thing is a magnet for demonic powers.” Wiles added that “these Pokemon creatures are like virtual cyber-demons.”

Wiles hopes that Americans will heed his warning about the potential large-scale dangers of the game:

"What if this technology is transferred to Islamic jihadists and Islamic jihadists have an app that shows them where Christians are located geographically? The enemy, Satan, is targeting churches with virtual, digital, cyber demons... They're spawning demons inside your church. They're targeting your church with demonic activity. This technology will be used by the enemies of the cross to target, locate, and execute Christians."

Some Christians, however, far from agreeing with Wiles, instead believe that Pokémon Go is a evangelizing opportunity because churches can be “Pokéstops” in the game.

The Church of England issued advice to its churches on how to impact those playing the game: “Place welcome signs outside: encourage them to come inside and offer them drinks and snacks. The game also uses a lot of battery so why not create a battery charging station? If you've got it, let them connect to the church's wifi."
