Pediatrician Refuses to Care for Child of Lesbian Parents

A lesbian couple is speaking out after they say their pediatrician denied care for their daughter because of their sexual orientation.

Krista and Jami Contreras of Michigan claim that Dr. Vesna Roi of Eastlake Pediatrics in Roseville was set to care for their six-year-old daughter Bay but refused to treat her “after much prayer.” The child was passed on to be treated by another doctor at the clinic instead.

Christian Today reports that Roi wrote the couple a letter of apology following her decision.

"After much prayer following your prenatal, I felt that I would not be able to develop the personal patient doctor relationship that I normally do with my patients. Please know that I believe that God gives us free choice and I would never judge anyone based on what they do with that free choice. Again, I am sorry for the hurt and angry feelings that were created by this. I hope you can accept my apology,” Roi wrote.

The Contreras are now speaking out about their discrimination experience.

"We want people to know that this is happening to families. This is really happening. It was embarrassing. It was humiliating...It's just wrong,” Jami Contreras said.
