Americans are remembering the 9/11 terrorist attacks as the 13th anniversary of the horrific event approaches. Many Americans will unite this week in prayer as cities across the country plan memorial services in remembrance of those who lost lives in the World Trade Center, in the Pentagon, and on Flight 93.

Families that lost loved one one September 11, 2001 have also joined together to stand against religious intolerance. The September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows has sponsored a bus ad campaign that promotes unity across religions. Their slogan reads, “Islamophobia is not pretty. Let’s build Bridges, not walls. Hate hurts, hope heals.”

Peaceful Tomorrows Project Director Terry Greene said about the project, "We wanted to make a clear statement that our 9/11 family members do not want to promote fear and hatred in our names. We believe that unity and interfaith tolerance are the path forward to a more peaceful tomorrow."

The President and First Lady will lead the nation in a moment of silence on the South Lawn of the White House on Thursday. The annual September 11th Observance Ceremony will be held later at the Pentagon Memorial.

To participate in a town or city memorial, check local newspaper listings for events.
