Rick Warren Speaks Against Redefinition of Marriage

In an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan, megachurch pastor Rick Warren explained his position on homosexuality, tolerance and the redefinition of marriage, Christian Post reports. Warren is most concerned with attempts to redefine the term “marriage.” “I don’t think other groups get the opportunity to redefine a term…” Warren said.

He pointed back to the historical definition of the word, saying, “I think historically, around the world, the vast majority of people would say marriage means one man and one woman in a commitment. Don't take a term and make it something different. Orwell talked about 'doublespeak,' where words mean the exact opposite of what they used to mean.”

On the subject of tolerance, Warren noted that the word used to mean we treat each other with mutual respect. Now, however, “tolerance has been changed to mean, all ideas are equally valid,” he told Morgan. “Well, that's non-sense, OK. All ideas are not equally valid. You can say the moon is made of cheese, or I can say the moon is made of beans..."

Morgan asked Warren if he could foresee a time when he and other Christian leaders, including those in the Catholic Church, would begin to fully support same-sex marriage.

"I cannot see that happening in my life," Warren said. "I fear the disapproval of God more than I fear your disapproval or the disapproval of society."
