Satanist Group in Orlando Plans to Provide Public School Students with Activity Books

A Satanist organization in New York is planning to distribute activity books to children in Orange County, Florida public schools. The books, provided by The Satanic Temple, feature a variety of activities that are intended to teach children about Satanism and counteract the teachings of Evangelical Christians in the region.

Orange County Public Schools allows Christian groups to provide students with Bibles and other religious materials, which prompted the Satanist group to push for an alternative.

The Satanic Temple founder Lucien Greaves said, "I am quite certain that all of the children in these Florida schools are already aware of the Christian religion and it's (sic) Bible, and this might be the first exposure these children have to the actual practice of Satanism.”

The group maintains that they believe in a strict separation of church and state, and a planning to distribute the activity books to make a point.

Orange County spokesperson Kathy Marsh says that the Satanist organization has not yet contacted the school. “We reserve the right to review the material before we decide what is distributed.”
