Archeologists believe they have discovered the remains of the palace where the trial of Jesus took place.

The ruins, which are in located in Jerusalem, were discovered 15 years ago when the Tower of David Museum started an expansion. Archeologists were peeling away layers of the floor in a building nearby the museum, when the remains were found.

The Chicago Tribune reports the excavation of the ruins was delayed by war and a lack of money, but the possibly holy site is now being shown on public tours.

Amit Re’em, a Jerusalem archaeologist who led the dig, said that the ruin "is a great part of the ancient puzzle of Jerusalem and shows the history of this city in a very unique and clear way.”

It is possible that the location could one day become a part of the Via Dolorosa, or Stations of the Cross, the path that Christian pilgrims walk between where Jesus was sentenced to death, crucified, and buried.

Shimon Gibson, archeology professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte said, "There is, of course, no inscription stating it happened here, but everything — archeological, historical and gospel accounts — all falls into place and makes sense.”
