Skeptical Scientist Recounts Near-Death Experience and Visit to Heaven

A scientist recently was forced to rethink her faith (or lack thereof) when she had a near-death experience.

According to CharismaNews.com, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mary Neal recently authored a book titled Seven Lessons from Heaven: How Dying Taught Me to Live a Joy-Filled Life in which she recounts her near-death experience and how it changed her life.

"We were kayaking on a section of river well known for its waterfalls," the former nominal Christian scientist begins her story. "As I crested the waterfall, I knew that things were not going to go well for me."

Neal's kayak capsized and she was trapped beneath raging water. In that moment, she says she felt a “radical shift in time and dimension.”

"I was being held and comforted and being reassured that everything was fine, regardless of whether I lived or died," she continued, also noting that she knew it was Jesus who was comforting her. "I was taken through a life review that was the first of many very profound parts of this experience for me."

Neal was ultimately given back her life on earth, but the experience profoundly changed her and her beliefs. While her science-minded brain used to question and dismiss God and the supernatural, she now embraces it.

"The reality of God is [now] part of every breath I take," she said. "And God's presence is part of every thought that I have."
