Syrian Church Attack Kills 9, Wounds 50

Two churches in Syria were hit by a mortar attack which killed nine people and left 50 wounded.
The bombing hit two churches on the outskirts of Damascus, one a Maronite church, another a Catholic church, leaving the churches in ruins and people dead or injured.
Maronite Archbishop Samir Nassar Nassar described the horrors of living with the threat of bombing.
"Part of the war in Syria is to live under indiscriminate bombing, a kind of Russian roulette which is always unpredictable," the Archbishop stated, according to Christian Today. "The survivors bury the dead without having been able to treat the wounded since they lack means and competence. They sink into silent prayer before the relics of martyrs, the seeds of faith."
Innocent civilians are often caught in the crossfire of President al-Assad’s government and the rebels.
Christians in Syria also frequently suffer persecution at the hands of ISIS militants.
Jean Clément Jeanbart, the Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of Aleppo said the West should no longer ignore the turmoil experienced by Christian communities in Syria.
"In my country, Syria, Christians are caught in the middle of a civil war and they are enduring the rage of an extremist jihad. It is unjust for the West to ignore the persecutions these Christian communities are experiencing," the Archbishop declared.
